As part of The Library Project’s Tsundoku Art Book Fair programme, Alice spoke on the birth of GLORIA Books and her and Katie [Kerr]’s shared endeavour of publishing as critical practice.
Alice Connew (photographer) and Katie Kerr (graphic Designer) launched GLORIA Books in 2016, posing a question: what could happen if an artist had full control over the entire publishing process? From cookbooks to motorcycles and bad reviews to Patti Smith, Connew delves into their process of experimentation which centres the book as an object.
About GLORIA Books
GLORIA is run by photographer Alice Connew (NZ/UK) and designer Katie Kerr (NZ) as an intercontinental publishing platform for art and photography books. The imprint acts as the pair’s research facility to explore a multidisciplinary approach to publishing. The artists are deeply involved in every step of the process, producing objects that express a singular intention — from concept to design to print.
